Jennifer’s Story: Hope After Years of Endometriosis and Infertility

Posted on April 15, 2026 by Reproductive Biology Associates

Jennifer Byrd’s path to parenthood was not linear. It was shaped by years of pain, persistence, and difficult decisions. After more than six years of trying to conceive, she and her husband were ready for help.

Her OB‑GYN referred her to Reproductive Biology Associates after recognizing that IVF was likely their best chance to build a family.

Living With Endometriosis From a Young Age

Jennifer was diagnosed with severe endometriosis at just 22 years old. After pathology confirmed the diagnosis, she quickly underwent surgery to remove an ovary and fallopian tube due to large endometriomas, often called chocolate cysts.

Over the next 20 years, endometriosis remained a constant presence in her life.

She experienced:

  • Multiple surgeries and laparoscopies

  • Medications that put her body into early menopause

  • Long-term use of different birth control methods to manage symptoms

When Jennifer and her husband decided they wanted children, another surgery revealed that her remaining fallopian tube was blocked by scar tissue. Her doctor knew it was time for specialized care.

Turning to RBA for Help

Jennifer came to RBA with a long medical history and a lot of hope. Her treatment plan included frozen embryo transfer using donor eggs.

The journey was not easy.

She experienced:

  • One miscarriage at eight weeks

  • One failed transfer

  • Grief, uncertainty, and the emotional challenge of deciding to use donor eggs due to very low AMH

Coming to terms with that decision took time, but Jennifer knew it was the right choice for her family.

A Call She Will Never Forget

After her third transfer, everything changed.

Jennifer received a voicemail from Dr. Slayden himself, calling to tell her she was pregnant and to congratulate her. It is a message she still has saved on her phone.

Seeing two babies on the ultrasound screen for the first time was overwhelming in the best way. In March 2022, Jennifer welcomed twin boys, James and Oliver.

Life After Infertility

Today, Jennifer speaks openly about her journey. She has become an infertility buddy through the Jewish Fertility Foundation and has formed deep friendships with other women she met along the way. Their children are now friends with her twins.

She describes James and Oliver as the best change she could have ever hoped for.

Jennifer’s Advice to Others

“Ask questions. Feel your feelings. Give yourself and your spouse grace. It is so hard, and you are so strong.”

For Jennifer, the care she received at RBA made the hardest experience of her life feel manageable.

“The care we received was unparalleled. The compassion meant everything. RBA is the best for a reason.”
